Ten minute tea with Afternoon Tea. Spend ten minutes with Afternoon Tea. In the time it takes to boil one kettle, and let one cup of tea steep, we will have your daily art + music fix covered. Take your afternoon tea break with our Afternoon Tea curators.
Today’s tea + soundtrack + visuals curated by His His. His His is the project of Toronto-based artist Aidan Belo. Combining delicate guitar lines with simple yet thoughtful vocals, Belo created this project as an outlet after relocating to his family’s hobby farm outside of the city in an attempt to evoke something rural and honest.
Garden Songs (Debut EP) is out now, most easily defined by the Portuguese word “saudade” – a feeling of longing and melancholy. Solemn folk track “Dried Lilacs” is about Belo going back home and feeling distanced from his family after being away; the nostalgia of life changing for both the better and the worse.
Tea: “My favourite tea is just a simple jasmine tea with a little bit of honey. If I’ve got some honeycomb at home, I like to drop some into my tea!”
Music: “Stranger to Yourself” by Loving. “Loving is one of my favourite acts right now, and this might be my favourite tune of theirs. The songwriting, lyrics, and production on their stuff really blows me away. Looking forward to being able to see them live again!”
Visual: Na Rota do Sagrado by Graça Morais
“This is a piece from the Portuguese neo-expressionist artist Graça Morais. She comes from Vieiro, the same town that my father grew up in. A lot of her artwork explores and depicts the people and culture of this part of Portugal. The English translation of the title of this piece is ‘On the Route of the Sacred’.
