Forever Nuts by David’s Tea

Ten minute tea with Afternoon Tea. Spend ten minutes with Afternoon Tea. In the time it takes to boil one kettle, and let one cup of tea steep, we will have your daily art + music fix covered. Take your afternoon tea break with our Afternoon Tea curators.

Today’s tea + soundtrack + visuals curated by Billie Zizi.

Edmonton’s Billie Zizi effortlessly binds avant-garde jazz subtlety to her guitar-driven melodies, creating a sound as approachable as it is experimental. Effusive and thoughtful, without pretense yet still above board, she carves a distinct path marked by sonic abandon and a wild spirit.

Hot on the heels of her melancholic and yearning single, “A Picture of a Picture,” Zizi is now sharing the pedal steel laden, soaring melodies of “Levitate,” the title track from her forthcoming LP of the same name (out on October 25th).

“Leviate”

I’ve always been fascinated with the edges of reality and this tune is about the intersection of the mundane and the profound and how those universes embrace each other. To levitate is to act in defiance of gravity, which is a metaphor for an act that defies social norms. “I let it take me, I let it take me, I levitate and I feel free,” is like when you give in to transcendence or a dream, or something that makes you feel alive. – Billie Zizi

Song:

Visual (poem): “Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again , come , come.” ― Jelaluddin Rumi

Tea: Forever Nuts by David’s Tea

Medium build is my favorite artist right now, I love ‘Crying over U’ very wistful, raw and real music about the mundane tragedy of everyday life. I’ve paired it with Rumi’s poem “Come whoever you are” because I  believe in investing in optimism. Rumi’s poem says ‘ours is not a caravan of despair. come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again , come , come.” which is an invitation to forgive ourselves our past transgressions and begin new everyday. The tea I’ve chosen is forever nuts by davids teas. Its floral, gorgeous pink glory is effervescent and uplifting because some things should just be easy.
