Prince Edward Island-born singer-songwriter Kari Lyn returns with her heartfelt new single, “Fall (I’m Not Ready),” a deeply introspective folk-rock anthem that captures the fear and excitement of stepping into the unknown. With raw vulnerability and cinematic storytelling, the song reflects Kari‘s personal struggles with change, self-doubt, and the courage to move forward.

Written in a moment of subconscious creativity—literally in her sleep—”Fall (I’m Not Ready)” emerged after an emotional breakthrough in therapy. Waking up in the middle of the night, she instinctively recorded a voice memo, snoring and all, capturing lyrics and melodies nearly identical to the final version.

Produced by Dan Hosh (Wild RiversSerena RyderArkells), the track seamlessly blends Kari’s folk roots with subtle rock influences, channeling a sound she describes as “if Noah Kahan and Taylor Swift had a baby.” The result is a nostalgic, road trip-ready anthem layered with emotional depth.

I really feel like I’ve been holding myself back from success. Consciously, I’ve wanted to share my story for a long time, but subconsciously, I’ve been too scared. Writing this song in my sleep felt like my subconscious was telling me it’s time. – Kari Lyn

Tea: Peppermint tea with a splash of lemon juice

The perfect comfort tea with a little citrus kick to keep you going

I chose this tea not only because it is one of my favourites but in many ways, this tea mirrors the journey depicted in my song “Fall (I’m Not Ready).” The peppermint represents the familiar comfort zones we often retreat to, encapsulating the safe spaces where we might find ourselves confined by past traumas. The addition of lemon juice symbolizes that invigorating zest—much like the therapeutic interventions—that propels us to release our burdens and embrace the challenges of a new day.

Just as the citrus kick enlivens the soothing mint base, seeking help can infuse our lives with renewed energy and perspective, encouraging us to move forward.

Song: Phobia by Anna Graves

I actually just discovered this artist while I was listening to a playlist of songs to get me in the mood for the release of Fall (I’m Not Ready) , after the playlist finished, Phobia was the first suggested song and I instantly fell in love with the song, the artist and the message. The raw emotion and vulnerability in her lyrics resonated deeply with me, mirroring the themes I explore in my own song. This unexpected discovery reaffirmed the message I aim to convey through my own music with the perfect folk rock sound that I love.

Visual: Seacow Head Lighthouse PEI By: Susan Christensen

I chose this painting by Susan Christensen, named Seacow Head Lighthouse PEI . Susan is an artist from my home province of Prince Edward Island that through travel has learned to appreciate the beauty of our little island even more. As someone who spent five years backpacking the world before returning and realizing my true passion was music, I truly relate to this. The flowing lines in her paintings make me feel like I could sing along to the “oouus” of fall as they flow down the rolling cliffs. “I wonder why my heart, it ain’t breaking. When all I feel is that I wanna love…”
