Nick Faye is a songwriter from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, living on Treaty 4 Territory. His new song, “Undone,” dives into the frustrations and fatigue of navigating the modern dating world. Written during a particularly challenging two-month stretch, the song reflects Faye‘s feelings after being canceled on or ghosted for six out of seven consecutive dates.
“Undone” is for anyone who has felt worn out from online dating while still trying to hold onto optimism. It blends lighthearted and silly lyrics with the emotional struggles of putting yourself out there in an unpredictable dating landscape.

Dating can be really fun, and I made some really special memories while getting to know a lot of great people I met online or in person. But sometimes people can be really cruel on the internet or disrespectful towards others’ time, attention, and energy. This song was written when I was feeling tired and worn out from a particularly brutal period of online dating. – Nick Faye
Audio visual: “Wash Me Away” by The North Sound
Visual: This weird motorized horse mirror lamp.

Tea: Polish Mint
I’ve carefully curated a “Very Prairie Mid-Winter Basement Escape” for readers today. The visual I selected is this super weird electronic motorized horse mirror lamp I found at Value Village. It has a speaker and makes rainforest sounds and has a motorized mechanism inside that makes it look like the water is moving. I don’t turn it on that much, but it’s always made me chuckle thinking about a shift worker coming home after a long day working in a potash mine and turning on their nature sounds and horse ocean lamp to relax before bed. Prairie winters can be tough, sometimes, a tropical lamp of horses galloping through oceans can get you through another cold night.
The song I picked is by The North Sound, and it’s called “Wash Me Away”. I heard it on CBC on my way to work one day, and it kind of fits the motif of the art piece I picked.
Finally, my FAVOURITE winter tea is a really nice Polish mint tea that I buy from Italian grocery stores whenever I go to bigger cities like Calgary. It’s my favourite mint tea I’ve found so far, and it’s perfect for those frigid Saskatchewan evenings where you’re hermitting in your cozy living room.
