Today’s tea + soundtrack + visuals curated by Stonehocker.

Stonehocker‘s powerful vocals are the focal point of any show. Accompanied by acoustic guitar, minimalistic electronic beats and samples, the live shows capture the unique, alternative sounds of his music. As a personable and unique individual, Stonehocker puts on a well-crafted performance with songs from his multiple albums.

Stonehocker‘s music is a dialogue of his learning about himself, how to love and forgive himself. The lyrics are an examination of the conflict in his own life. His latest track, “I Am Divided,” is a driving arrangement that speaks to feeling lost in life and conflicted by your own decisions.

I’m sitting and listening to Vacant Airport by Davis John Patton.  This song has the most beautiful lyrics I’ve heard in a long time, the images he paints always make me stop and pause whenever I hear them.  I just want to listen and drift off, this song is a journey back to love for me, so sometimes it’s sad and sometimes it’s encouraging.  Either way, it moves me more than anything I’ve heard in awhile.  He has a new single just released, so it’s a good time to show him some love too.

This art piece is by Doug Driediger, it’s actually quite a small little square of art and is 1 of 365 unique pieces (he painted 1 a day for a year).  For some reason I love paintings of cities and buildings, capturing the obscure, the art of mankind.  I stroll through his art on his Instagram and have trouble picking just one to show, I’ve been to many of his shows and feel privileged to own the few pieces I do.  He is simply amazing, the details he captures in whatever he’s painting, the way he plays with colors.  I love collaborating with artists on my music and I hope to one day get to collaborate with him.

Black Tea by Office du thé du Burundi (OTB

The tea I’m drinking, which I must admit I don’t do often, is a cup of Burundi Tea.  I drink it plain, no milk, no sugar; probably because my mom taught me to drink coffee and such without adding anything.  A friend of mine brought this tea back to me from Congo, where he’s from.  He’d gone home for his dad’s funeral; I’d been working on my last album “ups & downs” at that time and he later told me it helped him through it.  Even with a tea, somehow, I’m able to make it into something else.  So here I am, thinking of my friend while I drink this tea, looking at art and listening to music.
