Today’s tea + soundtrack + visuals curated by Riley Michaels.

Introducing Riley Michaels, a rising star in the world of pop/rock. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists such as John Mayer and Prince, Riley Michaels has developed a unique sound that blends the emotional depth of Pop with the infectious energy of Rock. A two-time Niagara Music Awards winner, his music strikes a chord with listeners, touching their hearts and moving their souls.

His new song, “Doctor, Doctor!,” is largely about that person that you know is bad for you to love, but you do it anyway, because you just can’t get over them – no matter how bad they are for you. It’s like drinking coffee – you know it’s not the best thing you can do for yourself, but it’s just too good and you can’t get enough of it. Your body, your soul craves it and you need it to function.

Though Riley is known for his sappy and emotional love songs, he wanted to make this one a real “rock ‘n roll” groove. This song was a collaboration between Riley and Ryan Guay from the band Street Pharmacy.

Music: Sundown – Gordon Lightfoot

Art: The Blacklist – S:1 Ep: 3.

I selected both the Gordon Lightfoot song and an episode from The Blacklist because there is a scene in The Blacklist in which the Gordon Lightfoot song is featured. I recently got into the show, and I am *hooked.* Such fantastic and dramatic storytelling. Anyways, I was watching the show, and a very intense scene was on display, and in the background was Sundown. And whoever the music supervisor who picked that song did a killer job, because the scene is almost exactly as the lyrics in the first verse are sung – “I can see her lying back in her satin dress, in a room where you do what you don’t confess.” I just remembered how damn good that song is, and now I have it on repeat in the car…

Tea: I am a Martial Artist who has studied Karate for almost two decades, so Japanese culture is kind of my wheelhouse.. I am a big fan of Matcha Tea, especially traditionally made using a bowl and Tea Whisk. I enjoy some Matcha regularly.
