“Organic Green Tea” from King Cole

Ten minute tea with Afternoon Tea. Spend ten minutes with Afternoon Tea. In the time it takes to boil one kettle, and let one cup of tea steep, we will have your daily art + music fix covered. Take your afternoon tea break with our Afternoon Tea curators.

Today’s tea + soundtrack + visuals curated by Apryll Aileen. Apryll Aileen is a classically trained pianist with a touch of science and spirituality. The soulful alt-pop vocalist, guitarist and songwriter from Atlantic Canada has sultry vocals and an alluring stage presence, making her a fan favourite at music festivals worldwide. Chock full of captivating lyrics and melodic hooks, Aileen‘s songwriting will leave you saturated in all the feels; wanting to dance, but also contemplate life’s meaning. Her album, Bad Things, is slated for release this September.

She teamed up with JUNO Award-winning electronic pop producer Corey LeRue (Neon Dreams, Ria Mae) for “Our Time,” a dreamy single inspired by summer romance. Intended to be lighthearted and free from the heaviness of heartbreak, “like if Carrie from Sex and the City played piano and wrote love songs.” Aileen elaborates that “People come into our lives for a small moment, a few years or a lifetime. Accepting the terms of the season, and appreciating the fun for what it is, is a beautiful way to keep the love and friendship alive.”

Tea  – “Organic Green Tea” from King Cole

I know it’s not the most creative tea, but I love this tea, especially in the afternoon when I don’t want to have anymore coffee but need a bit of caffeine. It’s an antioxidant and helps with burning fat, so one can’t deny those benefits. G. E. Barbour Inc. first started their food wholesaling business the year Canada was formed, in 1867.

The King Cole brand of tea was born in 1910. The company was formed in Saint John, New Brunswick – Canada’s oldest incorporated city and also, my birthplace, so there’s an extra blend of love in there with every sip.

Art – “Leave Space For Blue” – Rebecca Aldernet

I actually performed during the opening night for Rebecca Aldernet’s “Human Connections” exhibit at Trinity Galleries and was blown away by this piece of art. She has been an artist I’ve followed for several years now and she is so diverse and explorative in the way she creates art. Her work is part Picasso, part Milton Avery inspired. The colors grabbed me in this image and the blue is quite stunning in person. It reminds me of carefree summer festivals in California.

Music – “Tumbleweed” by Wild Belle

My friend recently sent me this album “Everybody One of a Kind” to check out and I’ve been listening to it while I’ve been on tour driving to different cities. It’s a great summer time, windows down, hand catching the breeze, on the way to the beach.

I love the melody of the chorus and the airy harmonies that Natalie Bergman adds towards the end of the track – they really pop that final chorus. I also love the production of the vocals and the laid back island-inspired vibe of the whole song. It’s romantic and dreamy but not lacking an incredibly cool groove.
